    About Us

We Educate Disadvantaged Children in English Literacy and Cognitive Skills

Born through Meadows Schools, Uhuru Walk is an initiative that works to inculcate vital English Literacy and Cognitive Skills in children who come from less fortunate backgrounds. We currently have a capacity of about thirty children ranging from 3–11 years of age.

    Creating Empowered Young Minds

These young minds lack access to English language resources and effective education. The majority have attended public underfunded schools which often employ undertrained teachers. A directly-observed challenge as a result of this is a prevalence of rote memorization over true understanding. For example, the children are able to recite the alphabet in order but struggle to recognize letters out of order.

In response to these challenges, our teaching methods prioritize the development of creative thinking and interpretation skills through interactive and adaptive curricula and classes. Though we only are able to meet them once a week, our aim is to provide our students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in an increasingly dynamic world.

Be a part of a unique vision - one that is rooted in the value of education

In Uhuru Walk's family, organizers, volunteering teachers (VTs), and sponsors each enjoy the intrinsic contentment of being a part of something larger than themselves.

In the process, long-lasting bonds of inter-reliability, trust, and enthusiasm are cultivated between our teams, acting as an avenue to meet new people, network and create friendships.

Organizers receive certificates and recommendation letters, and after a friendly year-long contest between organizers, the top 3 also take home Best Organizer awards. In the same way, Volunteering Teachers (VTs) are granted certificates based on the level of achievement they have dedicated themselves to work towards.
