In the Heart of Change: UHURU Walk
Amidst the chorus of voices calling for transformation, there exists a path less travelled—a journey forged by the enthusiasm for learning for all and the elimination of international language barriers.
Welcome to UHURU Walk, a collective movement born of passion and purpose, echoing the rhythm of resilience and hope.
Our story begins with an individual but then conjoins with the collective want of a community striving for progress. It reverberates through the streets, resonating with the shared dreams and aspirations of those who yearn for a nation unbound by barriers and inequality.
UHURU Walk is not just an organisation; it is a testament to the power of collective effort – the organisers, the volunteers, the sponsors, the well-wishers, the participants.
With a steadfast belief in the potency of collective action, our journey seeks to rewrite narratives, dismantle structures of inequity, and plant the seeds of lasting change and opportunity while opening room for opportunities for the most disadvantaged children of our society.
UHURU Walk is a pioneering movement in the empowerment of future leaders of the nation, advocating for voices that have long hitherto been whispers, communities pushed to the margins and caused to be relegated to the shadows. Rooted in the soil of inclusivity, our strides are guided by the principles of starting with language learning and fluency.
We do not just envision a better future for the nation; we roll up our sleeves and build it, learning alphabet by learning alphabet, hand in hand.
UHURU Walk stands as a beacon of hope in a world rife with challenges. It is a sanctuary where passion meets purpose, where compassion breeds action. We recognise that change is not a sprint; it’s a continuous, deliberate walk. Our annual event – the walk, is symbolic of the actualisation of our intent and pursuit.
Each step forward is a testament to our commitment to progress, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
Our journey is fueled by the stories of those we serve — the little children whose lives inspire us to push the boundaries of what is possible.
Our mission is anchored in the belief that every individual has the power to catalyse change.
As you step into the world of UHURU Walk, you become part of this thought process — a mosaic of stories, dreams, and ambitions converging to create a machinery of transformation.
Together, we walk towards a destination and a vision—a vision of a nation where every child is learned, every life cherished, and every dream realised.
Join us on this journey. Let us walk hand in hand, bound by the threads of empathy and purpose, as we carve a path toward a brighter, more equitable tomorrow.
Held in Dar-es-Salaam, Uhuru Walk is an annual event welcoming over a thousand participants annually for a walkathon, treasure hunt, marathon and cycling event.

We dedicate weekly sessions to crafting and conducting engaging English lessons for children aged 3-10. Guided by child expert and curriculum designer Gulbanu Suleman, alongside team leader and mentor Sarah Suleman, these classes aim to equip children with the language skills vital for their self-reliant futures in a globalized world.
In an increasingly interconnected world, proficiency in English is pivotal for children seeking independent paths toward success. For those unable to comprehend and communicate in English, the opportunities become scarce, perpetuating cycles of poverty.
Our mission is to bridge this gap for special, disadvantaged children supported by Uhuru Walk.
We have 2 branches of comprehensive volunteer training programs, focused at equipping individuals with invaluable skills
Education Outreach
We train volunteers in delivering Individualized Education Programs (IEP) tailored for disadvantaged children. Through our comprehensive training, volunteers learn the intricacies of lesson implementation and English language teaching (ESL). This training empowers them to create engaging and effective learning experiences, nurturing a supportive environment for these children to thrive academically.
Event Organizing
In parallel, our volunteer programs also into the realm of event organizing, encompassing every aspect from fundraising strategies to meticulous planning, seamless teamwork, and flawless execution. Volunteers gain hands-on experience in managing diverse elements of event coordination, honing crucial skills in leadership, organization, and teamwork essential for successful project management.
